Billed as one of the most successfully hosted Gauteng Summer Cups in recent history, this past weekend’s 2018 Gbets Gauteng Summer Cup was a horse racing extravaganza fit for the people of Gauteng!

With a backdrop of the immaculate Johannesburg skyline and almost 18 000 people in the iconic Turffontein race course, the 2018 Gbets Gauteng Summer Cup certainly lived up to the hype!

A big contributing factor to its success, the exciting introduction of Gbets as new sponsors was exactly the impetus Gauteng’s signature race day needed. Being a naturally energetic and fresh brand, it’s obvious to see why Gbets took the plunge and put its name behind South Africa’s hippest race day. The Gbets Gauteng Summer Cup is an extravagant melting pot of fun, fashion and racing thrill – the same distinguishing characteristics that make Gbets what they are.

And this year did not disappoint! It was amazing to see Turffontein’s stands full once again, and a hats-off goes to the organisers and sponsors for bringing the people and the vibe back to this historic race day. With all twelve races finishing in thrilling style, along with Tilbury Fort stylishly steaming to victory in the main race, the 2018 Gbets Gauteng Summer Cup will live long in memory!

Being relatively new on the horse racing scene, Gbets is making the strides in growing its recognition as a lover of horses and also operating a great horse racing book. For the future, we all want to see a Gauteng Summer Cup that grows from strength to strength, just like it did for many decades! Judging by the success of this past weekend’s Gbets Gauteng Summer Cup, we may very well be witnessing the exhilarating rebirth of the Summer Cup – aka “The People’s Race.”
