What are the different types of Online Roulette?
The 3 main types of roulette are European, American and French. Although very similar to each other, there are slight differences to how each type is played. Here’s the breakdown:
European Online Roulette:
There are 37 numbers on the European Roulette wheel. This makes it more popular for players than American Roulette that has 38 (double zero – 00), which effectively increases your chances of winning! Now, that is great!
American Online Roulette:
Not for beginners. The American Roulette wheel has an additional number slot, bringing the total to 38 numbers. This number is the double zero (00), and unfortunately limits the players chances of winning (more than the other 2 roulette types). This is because the player loses money when they place an even money bet and the ball lands on either zero (0) or double zero (00).
French Online Roulette:
The preferred type of roulette for players. Like the European style, there are 37 numbers on the French roulette wheel. What makes this type so awesome is the inclusion of either 1 of 2 exciting features on the wheel, aptly called la partage (means sharing in French), and en prison (or in prison). Here’s what each means and how they benefit the player:
La partrage: Players taking an even money bet will receive half their stake back if the ball lands on zero (0).
En prison: Players taking an even money bet will have half their stake put on the table for the following bet.
What are the types of Online Roulette bets?
Online roulette bets are divided by inside and outside bets, with each category having unique odds and options. Here’s a breakdown of the roulette bet types:
Inside Bets are bets placed from the numbered, inner section of the table and have higher odds and bigger pay outs:
- Straight up: Bet placed on 1 number on the board / wheel
- Split: Bet placed on 2 numbers next to each other on the board / wheel
- Street: Bet placed on 3 numbers in a row – also known as Trio bet

Outside Bets are bets placed from an option in the outside section of the board, and have lower odds and smaller pay outs:
- Red / Black: Bet placed on the ball landing on either a red or black number on the wheel
- Even / Odd: Bet placed on the ball landing on either an even or odd number
- High / Low: Bet placed on the ball landing on either numbers 1-18 (low) or 19-36 (high)
- Column: Bet placed on 1 of the 3 columns of numbers, with a bet winning when the ball lands on either selected number
- Dozen: Bet placed on 1 of 3 groups of numbers (either 1st x 12, 2nd x 12, or 3rd x 12), with a bet winning when the ball lands on a number in the selected 12 numbers.
