Today’s big news comes from England, where it’s reported that Spurs star Dele Alli was robbed at knife point in his north London home last night (Wed 13 May). The soccer star was punched and injured as the two attackers escaped with a loot of items such as jewellery and watches.

Police are busy reviewing CCTV footage of the incident but up to now have made no arrests. Alli was quick to assure fans that he was ok following the incident. He posted on Twitter the following message: “Thank you for all the messages. Horrible experience but we’re all okay now. Appreciate the support.”

A rising trend emerging

This incident forms a string of recent crimes against football stars. In November 2019, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac were attacked by knife-wielding thugs that attempted to rob them of their luxury watches worth over R3 Million! More recently, it was Alli’s teammate Jan Vertonghen and his family who were the victims of a knife-wielding robbery. The incident took place in Germany during Spurs Champions League Round of 16 duty.

It begs the question that if these stars are slowly becoming the target of crime, more should be done to protect them right? Or should they better allocate resources to protect themselves? In the case of the Alli incident it’s hard to judge as the criminals did break into and enter his house at midnight.

Let soccer come and sweep the crime away
